A few years ago, I went to Italy after a very difficult period in my life. I ?had broken (break) up with my boyfriend, I ?had left (leave) my job, and I didn't really know what to do next. I felt emotionally exhausted, so I decided to visit some friends in Milan and try to cheer myself up.

While I ?was staying (stay) with them, they suggested that I should take a day trip to Verona before flying back home. They explained which train I needed to take and what time it left Milan Central Station. However, on the morning of the trip, I ?was thinking (think) about my problems instead of paying attention to the platform numbers, and somehow I got on the wrong train without realising it.

At first, everything seemed normal. The train ?was moving (move) through the countryside, and after a while I fell asleep. When I woke up, the train ?had already arrived (already arrive) in Bologna. I felt confused because I ?had never visited (never visit) the city before and I had no idea what to do. Still, I decided to walk around for a few hours before going back to Milan.

As I ?was walking (walk) through the narrow streets and looking at the old buildings, I suddenly realised how different I felt there. For months before that, I ?had been feeling (feel) lost and unhappy, but in Bologna, for the first time in a long while, everything seemed peaceful and strangely familiar. By the end of the day, I ?had fallen (fall) in love with the city.

When I returned home, I couldn't stop thinking about Bologna, so a few weeks later I moved there, found a job, and rented a room in a beautiful old house in the city centre. Later, I met the man who became the love of my life, and we lived there together for six wonderful years. Although we have moved away now, we still return to Bologna from time to time. Whenever I go back, I remember how one wrong train journey completely changed my life.
